John O. Leonard

John O. Leonard is the Vice President of Finance for the Investment Board of Directors. As Vice President of Finance, he aids in the financing of each project and hosts a referral network of clients for future business opportunities with The Fortus Group. Along with being a partner in The Fortus Group, Mr. Leonard is the founder and principal shareholder of American Mortgage & Realty Corp. (AMR), headquartered in Fort Wayne, Indiana. AMR is one of the Midwest’s leading, privately-held, commercial mortgage banking companies.  AMR is a loan correspondent to institutional investors and currently manages and services a commercial mortgage loan portfolio in excess of $700 million.  With 32 years of experience in commercial real estate finance and investment, Mr. Leonard enjoys an extensive network of clients seeking commercial mortgage banking services and real estate equity investments.  Prior to forming AMR, Mr. Leonard was the President of RealAmerica Mortgage Corp., a commercial mortgage banking firm that produced over $2 billion in commercial mortgage backed securities.  Under Mr. Leonard’s leadership, RealAmerica Mortgage Corp. was taken from a substantial operating loss to a highly profitable company within Mr. Leonard’s first year of leadership.  Also during Mr. Leonard’s tenure, RealAmerica Mortgage Corp. developed seventeen correspondent lenders, completed approximately $1.8 billion in new commercial real estate financing and investment transactions, and became active in the placement of equity for real estate projects and the sale of institutional grade commercial real estate to pension funds and private investors.  Mr. Leonard is a graduate of Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business, Bloomington, Indiana, with Bachelors and Masters Degrees in finance and economics.
